Stary Kleparz: The Oldest Covered Market in Krakow

Stary Kleparz is the oldest covered market in Krakow- dating back over 600 years! And it’s super close to the Old Town area- meaning it is perfect for tourists. {It’s also featured in our list of Farmer’s Markets in Krakow you can read here}

Just about a 10-minute walk from the Main Square, Stary Kleparz has been changing a lot recently- what used to be a market just with local produce and things you might need for your house, Stary Kleparz is starting to modernize into a trendy covered market with coffee shops, bistros, bakeries, and even an Art and Food Bazar that happens here on select Sundays. (see that schedule here)

Stary Kleparz is a delight for the senses, especially in summer, when you can be easily overwhelmed by the wide array of colors you’ll be confronted with upon arrival to the produce section of the market.

The produce follows the local seasons, so prices change from day to day depending on supply and demand. This is the cheapest, freshest, most local place to buy produce grown in and around Krakow.

While language may be an issue here for non-Polish speakers, we recommend grabbing some cash (there’s an ATM at the entrance) and just using your fingers to point to what you want. Most things will be sold by the kilo, or will come in little cups or baskets.
